Better Late Than Never

I'm a bit late on this post, but you know....

Grandma and Grandpa K were here in April for a visit, coincidently and conveniently when French Quarter Festival was going on!  We enjoyed the weather, food, and music along the river.

Cassidy spent time with Grandma and Grandpa hanging out in the yard (when Daddy didn't have Grandpa working hard on expanding Cassidy's playground area --- photos coming soon).

Mommy, Cassidy, and Grandma visited City Park for some play time, ice cream, and popcorn.
(While the boys were working hard at home!)

Cassidy went on a picnic with Grandma and Grandpa while Mommy and Daddy were at work.

Thanks for visiting, Grandma and Grandpa!  We can't wait until next time!

Mother's Day at Audubon Zoo and Cool Zoo

We've been getting our money's worth out of our Audubon membership with trips to the zoo, including Mother's Day.

Mommy and Cassidy riding the zoo train.

I've been waiting for a splash pad to open up in New Orleans ever since we stumbled upon the one in Abita last year, and finally, we have one!  The cool zoo is a water park inside audubon zoo, but without actual pools.  It's got fountains and slides, and is just a great place for cooling off in our Louisiana heat!

Jeff took cassidy down the slide twice.  The first time she got drenched on the way up the stairs, and was crying before she hit the slide.  The next time, they went up the back way, and she lasted until he sat her down on the slide where water was gushing out onto her lap.  That put a quick stop to her desire to go down the slide "herself".
A daredevil our girl is not.

Most of her time is spent running up to the edge of the fountains, but not actually running through them.  Occassionally she misjudges and gets a faceful of water, which results in a bit of whining while wiping her eyes.

I'm still hoping for a splash pad at city park someday, as this one we have to pay for even though we're members.  But I'm sure we'll be spending a lot of time there this summer cooling off!

On our past couple trips to the zoo, we bought wrist bands for each of us for unlimited carosel rides, cool zoo admission, train rides, and dinosaur exibit.

Cassidy did NOT like the dinosaurs.
And I admit, they were quite scary.
They are lifesize, moving, roaring, growling recreations of various dinosaurs, and I found them quite creepy.  Cassidy was terrified and wanted no part of them.

Picnics at "the beach"

Jeff and I are still playing in volleyball leagues once a week, me on tuesdays and Jeff on thursdays.  On the nights Jeff has early games, Cassidy and I pick up some dinner and head out to the beach to watch daddy play while having a picnic.

Star of the Week

Cassidy was "Star of the Week"  for school.  All the kids take a turn as the "star" and their picture is hung up in a special place in the classroom.  They get to bring a special item from home for show and tell and also bring a treat to share with the class.

Cassidy chose to bring the turtle "snowglobe" I brought her from my trip to Destin (more on that in another post).
We made ice cream cone cupcakes for her to share with her class

and she picked out the picture she wanted to display in the classroom.

City Park Weekends

Just about every weekend now includes a visit to City Park.  We usually play on the playground, eat ice cream at the cafe, look for ducks and turtles, and most recently ... climb trees.

And then get stuck and call mama for help.
