Day 4:
All morning she was in underwear and pants.
0 accidents!
0 pees in the potty.
0 poos in the potty.
Several attempts on the potty but with no success.
How do I teach her that she doesn't have to squeeze until her face turns purple while trying to make the pee come out?!?
I think she's holding out for the diaper at nap time.
Wet diaper after nap time.
0 pees in the potty.
1 pee in pants just before bed.
0 poos in or out of the potty.
Cassidy was resistant to the idea of sitting on the potty all day.
Day 5:
Underwear and pants all day (with the exception of nap time - wet diaper after nap).
3 pees in the pants.
1 poop in the pants.
1 successful pee on the potty! Cassidy initiated sitting on the potty for this one! I think she's cutting it off before she's done in her excitement to stand up to look because she had an accident shortly after this with a whole lot of pee.
Cassidy was more open to the idea of sitting on the potty today. We still had a lot of "no"s when we asked her to sit on the potty, but some of the time she went willingly.
Oh goodess. Freddie had a hold out day once early on. Sounds like she knows what's going on since she had such great success but she wants to be in charge. I'd leave her pantsless whenever possible and when there is an accident just stick to your script and don't show anger frustration or emotion. And really celebrate those successes like you have been doing. Even though Freddie has been in diapers a bunch while travelling this week he still asked to sit on the potty on the airplane today (yuck) and it was just for pee.
ReplyDeleteSo I am thinking of this as a process and not an event. And refusing I think is part of the process from what we've experienced.
Maybe tell daycare about the success she has had at home and maybe they can at least encourage her. Freddie will pop a squat at the sight of another kid near a potty.
You're doing great! It's happening.
Keep up these posts. Miss updates on you all.
Jenny, it sounds just like Freddie early on. He would sit and squeeze and squeeze and his forehead vein would pop out. He wanted to do SOMETHING. And he would do the same thing with sitting and making a little pee or poop, celebrate, and then finish later while somewhere besides the potty.
ReplyDeleteShe gets it. She's making progress. You are doing great.
I wouldn't force her to sit or hold her there though. Carry her there with your script of "pee on potty" and sit her down. If she gets up and pees again just bring her back, calmly and without emotion. Let her be in control...because this is one battle you absolutely cannot win so don't even make it a battle. She will show you she can pee and poo where she pleases. So being "defiant" and not sitting is her way of showing you that you cannot force her to sit and pee..and really, you can't.
Freddie was refusing too so I stopped asking Freddie but stuck to the routine of "we sit on the potty before nap, before bed, before we leave, etc." and that gives him plenty of opportunities to pee if he needs to.
We're cheering for you!!! I think it sounds like she is doing fantastically. Don't get frustrated...it is happening!
